information is respected and secured. This statement speaks
for the entire Plega group of companies listed above and
introduced in the future.
Plega
is providing this statement in accordance with the Privacy
Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000 and the National Privacy
Principles (NPP’s) which are set out in the Act.
By
continuing to deal with Plega, you consent to the policies
and practices described in this statement.
COLLECTION
OF PERSONAL INFORMATION (NPP 1)
Plega
collects various types of personal information such as:
names, addresses, phone numbers, date of birth, occupation,
licence numbers, employment referees, health complaints,
credit card and finance details. Plega collects its information
only by lawful means. The relevant information is most
commonly collected directly from the individual. However,
other methods of collection may include: telephone, facsimile,
email, mail or via sales contracts, finance and employment
application forms, resumes, business cards and so on.
In some cases Plega may obtain information from a third
party such as referral situations or publicly available
sources on the Internet.
Plega
may request personal information from customers, potential
customers, potential employees, individual contractors,
new and existing contacts or other sources.
Note:
Plega does NOT collect, use, store or disclose any personal
information from its website visitors.
USE
AND DISCLOSURE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION (NPP 2)
Plega
will only use the personal information obtained for the
purpose of marketing, generating and processing sales,
providing services, considering potential employees or
potential customers or administering contractors of the
business.
Plega
will not disclose any personal information to any other
parties unless the individual has consented or it has
been a requirement of the law to do so.
Plega
will only use this information for direct marketing purposes
where:
- It
is impractical to seek the individual’s consent before
that particular use;
- All
written direct marketing will provide Plega’s Privacy
Officer’s address and contact details and an opportunity
to cease receiving any future marketing communications;
- The
individual has not made a request not to receive any
further direct marketing communication.
Plega’s
use and disclosure of information collected prior to 21
December 2001 is exempt from this statement.
QUALITY
OF PERSONAL INFORMATION (NPP 3)
Plega
will make every effort to maintain the quality of the
personal information it collects by ensuring it is accurate,
up to date and complete at all times.
MAINTAINING
SECURITY (NPP 4)
At
all times Plega will endeavour to protect individuals
personal details by ensuring they are kept free from misuse,
corruption, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.
Plega will take all reasonable steps to destroy or permanently
de-identify personal information no longer required.
OPENNESS
(NPP 5)
Plega
makes its policies on the privacy of individuals personal
information outlined in this document available to anyone
who requests it. It is an open statement about Plega’s
management of the personal information it collects and
uses.
ACCESS
AND CORRECTION BY INDIVIDUALS (NPP 6)
Plega
will do all possible to provide individuals access to
their personal information if requested in writing. This
request will be executed within 30 days. However, Plega
is permitted to deny access to personal information in
situations where
there is a threat to life;
there is an unreasonable privacy impact on other individuals;
it is a frivolous request;
there are existing/anticipated legal proceedings;
Providing access is unlawful or the information would
prejudice enforcement/security activities.
Plega
may decide to impose a charge to the individual requesting
access to their personal information to cover the cost
of verifying the request, locating, retrieving, reviewing
and copying any material requested.
IDENTIFIERS
(NPP 7)
Plega
does not adopt a government agency identifier (e.g. Tax
File Numbers) as its identifier of an individual.
ANONYMITY
(NPP 8)
If
it is lawful and practical to do so, individuals may chose
not to identify themselves when entering into a transaction
with Plega.
SENSITIVE
INFORMATION (NPP 9)
Sensitive
information such as details or opinions about an individual's
health, religion, political stand, philosophical beliefs,
criminal record, sexual preference or membership of professional,
political, trade union or trade associations is considered
to be sensitive information. As noted in the Act, sensitive
information may not be collected unless required by law
or if the individual has consented to providing the information.
Only under these circumstances will Plega collect this
type of personal information.
