Do you know who you
really sleep with?
This is Jimmy, the dust mite.
He lives in your mattress with his mates (by the millions),
eating your dead skin and hair, - yuck!
Dust mites are a major cause of asthma and allergies. They
are not parasites, since they only eat dead tissue, yours...
These very small, eight legged creatures produce
more than 15 waste droppings per day, containing proteins
to which many people are allergic.
It is believed that 10% of the weight of a five year old
pillow are composed of dead mites and their droppings!
There is no doubt that they are present in our
homes and beds, therefore it is important to know how to control
them.
One can always use a plastic sheet over their mattress, replace
feather and down pillows with those having synthetic fillings,
- generally change everything to synthetics. Vacuum the bedroom
daily, - including the mattress, with a vacuum cleaner that
has a high-efficiency filter.
Performing all these tasks will minimise their
presents but you can not totally get rid of them.
The obvious choice is to change the
mattress after seven (7) years.
